Who is John McCain, really? An astrological profile

John McCain's astrological chart

advertisement

After publishing my astrological profile on Barack Obama several weeks ago I thought it seemed a good idea to do an in-depth analysis of John McCain. I'm not a supporter of his, and I have to admit I'm even less of one after doing his chart, but with that admission right out front I'll just go ahead and just call it as I see it, and let you be the judge of what rings true and what doesn't.
------------------------------

First of all, it shouldn't be surprising, when you consider that our astrological charts are who *we* are, that the charts of John McCain and Barack Obama are rather stunningly different. Looking at John McCain's very striking and conflicted planetary placements would tell any astrologer that he's had some significant psychological challenges, and I'm not talking about particular episodes, such as his much spoken of time as a POW, I'm talking about what's been going on in his psyche from the time he was a very small child.

The first thing that jumps out is a very difficult aspect involving his natal Pluto and Moon. Referring to the chart—there's a striking red line that slashes from the top to the bottom, sort of dividing the chart into halves. That is an exact opposition between his Pluto in the Tenth House (the house of worldly achievement) and his Moon in the Fourth house (the house of home, family and the past), and it reveals an emotionally strife-torn beginning. Also prominent on the chart is what is called a T-square (notice the red triangular formation at the southwest quadrant), which in this case involves a Venus-Saturn opposition with both of these planets at 90 degree angles to his Jupiter. All of these planets and the signs and houses in which they fall--and most particularly their angles to one another--strongly indicates that John McCain's childhood environment was difficult and tumultuous in a way that adversely impacted his psychological development and in turn his personal relationships, his values, his close relationships with women and, most importantly, his self-image as a man.

From the afflicted Moon in Capricorn in the Forth House it can be deduced that his mother and father were almost certainly the source of the trouble. It's likely his mother was a not a very warm or compassionate figure to him, and his father may have been emotionally distant and perhaps overly critical—both parents probably had rigid expectations. At the same time, he was likely well provided for materially, and perhaps in some manner even indulged or spoiled as a child. With Pluto in Cancer opposing his Moon in Capricorn one or both of his parents may have been emotionally unpredictable and discipline was probably wildly inconsistent. So, before even going onto the many other elements in his chart, and his personality, this gives us some important information.

The poorly aspected Moon and Venus on John McCain's chart would specifically indicate difficulties in intimate relationships. Conventional astrology and Freudian psychology are actually very much in sync, and the chart indicates that the attitudes of one or both of his parents fostered mistrust and cynicism toward women. These feelings would not bode well for any woman who would wish to have an intimate, loving relationship with him. He's a man who has probably felt a fair amount of hostility and mistrust toward women, and with his Saturn in Pisces opposing his Venus in Virgo he has also had highly unrealistic expectations of them. This could be the classic aspect of the man who expects a woman to be a saint otherwise she's just a whore. Also, a man who might repeatedly set himself up to be disappointed by women by gravitating to the very type of woman who will most disappoint him.

Of course with any sort of psychological baggage we carry from our childhood there is an opportunity offered to evolve and in some cases become even better for having been challenged. This chart would indicate someone who would need to make a lot of conscious effort otherwise intimate relationships will always be a major source of unhappiness.

With regard to his daughters, the mistrust is probably less profound despite their gender, but there is an indication, with his poorly aspected Moon in Capricorn that he would have unrealistic expectations of his daughters as well, which could potentially cause them to feel some resentment toward him. With his Moon in the Forth House, there are also some very positive things: this would incline him to be a protective parent and a good, steady provider for his daughters and his family—they know they can depend on him. Considering the large number of mutable (flexible) planets in his chart I would tend to think that he is more tolerant with his own children than his parents were with him.

While his close relationships with women have been problematic, his relationships with men are quite different. With his Sun in the Eleventh House in Virgo he would tend to have a lot of male acquaintances and male friendships, though none of them would likely be particularly close. He undoubtedly feels much more trusting of men than women. With Neptune in Virgo in the 11th, conjuncting his Sun, he is also capable of a deeply loyal and self-sacrificing feeling toward his male associates, especially if they are comrades in a common social cause. This would speak to his war experiences and his feelings of loyalty there. Venus and Mercury in the Twelfth House would also contribute to a sense of wanting to do for others and an admirable capacity for self-sacrifice.

The placement of the Sun on the natal chart is very important. His Sun is in the 11th House and this House has to do with social groups, clubs, politics, the greater society, the future, and the future of the human race in general. With his Sun in the pragmatic work sign of Virgo, and in the 11th, I see him as a person who does possess an innate desire to serve society; to give of himself and serve causes higher than his personal self-interest. The 11th House includes activities which are organized around a social goal—so political activities fall squarely into its domain. Aside from his Sun being in this house Neptune is also there and forms a conjunction (union) with his Sun. This would mean he can be especially giving of his time and energy in these kinds of endeavors and he can find great fulfillment in working with groups of people on social causes—and probably feels most in his comfort zone in these situations. Pretty much any cause that has some sort of arguably "beneficial" effect would do, but with his Sun, Neptune and Venus in the sign of Virgo, environmental causes would be especially of interest to him—animal causes as well. With his Sun in Virgo he does have an ability to organize and work co-operatively and effectively with groups of people for all sorts of positive change. He also has good instincts for assessing problems realistically & listening to and communicating with people effectively. He is interested in world affairs and can be very tuned into what's going on and thus, sometimes exceptionally good at predicting the future or at anticipating coming events. However (and this is a big however), his ability to ascertain things correctly isn't consistent: when Neptune is placed in the 11th House there is also the capacity to be badly misled or confused by distorted or corrupted information, or, by misinformed or dishonest people. Neptunian idealism also causes him to be overly trusting of people at times, which in turn can make him vulnerable to deceit. So for all his general good sense of the "world at large" his judgment can sometimes go significantly astray.

Mars and Pluto are placed in the Tenth House in his chart, which is hugely significant in the context of a presidential campaign. The Tenth House has to do with our achievements and career success. Very much *unlike* the 11th House, which has to do with doing for *others* this House has to do with doing for *ourselves*—with proving our merit to the world with our accomplishments. Mars and Pluto are both intensely aggressive and self-serving planets and with both of them together in the Tenth House of achievement it clearly indicates a desire to rise as high as possible in a career for entirely selfish reasons. Especially so with his Mars in the sign of Leo, which would contribute to an egotistical desire to prove something to the world. So, John McCain's interest in rising to the top in politics is an altogether separate aspect of his character from that part of him which is purely humanitarian. This separate "achievement" ambition of his does not have a connection to the fulfillment he gets out of working with people on social causes and helping people in general. It is a desire that stems from the way he was shaped in his childhood, the insecurity that began there and still lingers in the psyche, and a resulting, ongoing need to prove himself that's been present—you might even say, smoldering within him—since then.

The placement of Mars in the 10th and especially in the sign of Leo indicates a powerful and ongoing desire to be admired by people and seen as a strong, powerful man. With Pluto in Cancer in the 10th house as well, there is quite a bit of egotistical self-interest, and also a potential for dishonesty and ruthlessness in the pursuit of his ultimate career goals. His career happens to be politics, which can be a humanitarian realm when exercised in that manner, but as we all know it can also be something quite the opposite. So there's a duality in his character; a part of him that's duty bound toward the altruistic, and another part that's just plain out for himself. The latter goes straight back to his childhood—just as that red line goes straight up from the bottom of his chart to the top: from the past and family, to the future and achievement.

As to his core values, and the things in life he believes in—this is another aspect of the psyche that is largely set in youth. To some people John McCain appears to be his own man—a maverick—sure of who he is, of what he stands for and of his unique destiny in life. Well, interestingly, the chart indicates something quite different. I think people are thrown off about him because like most men, he exhibits a veneer of male hubris and certitude, but the veneer shouldn't be confused with firm values and deeply held views. Referring back to the T-square which I mentioned earlier, with his Jupiter in Sagittarius in his Second House--and at the base of the T-Square involving Saturn and Neptune--his personal values, his political views and his broader philosophical views, are not very deeply entrenched and never will be. This is especially true because the planets involved in this T-square are all in mutable (flexible) signs. The placement of his Mercury in the hazy 12th House, and, the Neptune-Venus-Sun conjunction in the mutable sign of Virgo also point to this. The T-square I keep referring to has much to say regarding the lack of consistency in his core beliefs and also, the lack of real, deep conviction for any given viewpoint he may espouse at any given time. He cannot be described as a man of deep beliefs. With the Mercury and Jupiter placements, it's indicated that he is a person who possesses an inner need to always be broadening his views of life, who needs to feel free to incorporate new information and ideas. This could make him very open-minded, and flexible in an admirable way, but it can also make him very intellectually flaky. He might too easily adopt or shed a conviction and he could also be impulsive about reaching a conclusion, before all the information is in. He does have an instinct to seek truth and to seek enlightened knowledge, but he is so open to new information the "truth" for him can shift around a lot. Essentially, I think it can be safely said that John McCain is not an ideologue. It might, however, be said that he is ideologically all over the place.

His open-mindedness and lack of entrenched beliefs can be assessed as a very positive character trait or very negative, depending on your perspective. As a Republican politician who's expected to see the truth the dogged Republican way this open-mindedness has obviously been a problem and it does appear that he's managed to hide it to some degree. I think what is largely going on with him regarding the Maverick image is, with Jupiter in it's own freedom-loving sign of Sagittarius, squaring his Sun, Neptune and Venus, you have someone who just has to feel free to think and take stands as he chooses. His quest for new "truth" generally guides him, but mixed in with that is the highly ambitious side of him (Mars & Pluto in the 10th) which I think conveniently enables him, in his flexibility, to be quite capable of rationalization and self-deception as a means of serving his personal interests. So, is this getting confusing? Well, as I said his chart is filled with contradictions. I would say this is why it's hard for people to really get a fix on John McCain as a person, and what makes him tick. He'll never be an easy one to predict or pin down.

One of the concerns I would raise regarding whether he'd be a good bet as a president isn't so much his lack of sureness in his views and values, but more in his true motives for wanting the job. When asked directly about his motives for wishing to be president his public answer has been that he is "seeking to serve a cause higher than himself". The birth chart would indicate that he's speaking the truth, but his chart also shows very clearly that this is only part of the truth. There is a stronger motivation. And that goes straight back to where I started in this reading. John McCain is, presently, striving for something that largely has nothing to do with people, the society he lives in, or the welfare of the world in general, but everything to do with issues within himself. I believe in his present quest to be president the dominant motive is a negative one. And although he certainly wouldn't be the first person in a position of power to possess this sort of psychological dynamic, I would say we might look back to those leaders in our world's history, notorious for their ego issues, to see how this usually works itself out. Another thing that troubles me (being a woman), is that there are probably still some anger issues with women that are unresolved. This is not a man who probably feels especially kindly toward the female sex in general, and as a woman I wouldn't wish him to be president for this reason almost as much as the fear that he might, out of his very considerable desire to prove his manly-manliness to the world, be too belligerent and aggressive in his approach to foreign policy. All in all I have to say, I see reasons for everyone to really reflect on his true nature and his true motives and how this could play itself out were he to be our next president at this very complicated time.

Lisa, you are a wonderful writer and your article on McCain is absolutely fascinating. For me it all rang true and I especially liked the way you analyze and explain the "Maverick" question. I've always thought that the frequency in which McCain declares himself an extraordinary patriot nearly every time he's on camera makes the whole claim seem false. He seems intent to exploit his own past and what virtues he has shown in the past, in order to serve his present self-interest. Really sort of sad. So, I guess what I'm saying is, your analysis seems completely dead on to me.

I also enjoyed your video! Very funny. Do you plan to do Sarah Palin's chart next?

Thanks Strad, yeah that whole Maverick thing is so hyped--I think mostly by John McCain. He's been running his own PR campaign for about 26 years now. Portraying himself as a Maverick and a great patriot--who really loves his country, as apposed to the rest of us who I guess wish we were French.

I may do Sarah's chart. No one seems to be sure when she was born, but I might be able to guess at when she was born by arranging her chart in the way that is maximally unfriendly to wildlife!

Great analysis Lisa! You obviously have an ability to take issues to their depth.

What strikes me about John's chart centers arounds all of the 11th house, 12th house, Neptune influence. Were he to choose a different path he could tap into a deeper connection to the collective and use his power to the good. Quite obviously he has instead he has chosen shallowness (ignoring his Saturn) that makes him open to manipulation and deception (Neptune, 11th house). In a way, it is a great chart gone to waste.

How ironic is it that women, whom he so disdains, now hold his fate in their hands!

Yes, a bit of bad karma there I guess. There is a really scathing article in the NY Times by the brilliant (and always scathing) Maureen Dowd today. She makes reference to this and it's definitely worth a read: /www.nytimes.com/2008/09/07/opinion/07dowd.html?hp">Mo Dowd article

I actually didn't consider John's chart as potentially a good chart, but you're right. One would assume with the emotional resolve he's developed from his challenges he could also be a strong force for positive change. Unfortunately like most senators, he's mostly been a cog in the wheel over the years. I think the strong Neptunian influence is indeed a big problem. His judgment along the way has been a mixed bag, but what people really should be considering right now is what he did in 2002. He was gung-ho during the run-up to the war. He was privy to all the Intelligence reports and had access to any opinion of any military expert he wished to consult. He was horribly wrong when in 2002, before the war started, he went on the talk show circuit scaring everyone about Saddam Hussein and also reassuring everyone that we could "get the job done" relatively easily, and with less than 100,000 troops. If people feel Dick Cheney is the Devil, why do they let McCain off the hook?

Interesting, that back in 2002 Maureen Dowd and a few others were telling us regularly in their columns that the whole thing was a big sham perpetrated by emotionally retarded men with male ego issues!

Here's some video to back up my astro-analysis. Mika Brezinski has been extremely even handed in her reporting and commentary about McCain and Palin. But even still, this morning McCain comes on Morning Joe and insults her professionalism by calling her an "Obama supporter". He also looks completely uptight and grumpy for the interview, even though he should be happy right now with his recent pull-ahead in the polls.

He's a bit wonky in the head I think...

Woke up with thoughts about McCain's Capricorn Moon. Again, with a public figure, the Moon represents the public and HOW S/HE FEELS ABOUT THE PEOPLE. This not only brings in Moon in Capricorn, but its opposition to Pluto and its rulership of his tenth house. These feelings point to the famous nation of whiners statement, his feelings that the middle-class starting at $5 million and his willingness to manipulate the public to his own ends. This puts an even finer edge on your statement on Pluto in Cancer and the tendency to employ surreptitious means to end (can we say spying on the American public?).

        Yeah, creepy.

Yeah, I couldn't get over the Nation of Whiners comment. His good friend Phil Graham--Nice guy. I really can't believe the repubs would have the gall to call Obama elitist when this comes from McCain's long-time republican pal and financial guru. It really is wildly sickening!

Anyway, I was just thinking this afternoon that all Obama really has to do to win this thing is, in the next two months show everyone that he's tough enough to be president and a stronger guy than McCain. And then I thought, well, wait a minute! He IS a stronger guy than McCain. So it really shouldn't be that hard!

The astrologer has McCain's birthtime two hours too early at 9AM not 11. This marries McCain's Mars to his Leo midheaven trined by Jupiter (good fortune) and squared by Uranus (the revolutionary reds who brutalized him in prison and crushed his enormous self-serving ego a challenge he survived to achieve fame and fortune in politics as a selfless server and patriot of his country). McCain's political success (Jupiter trine Mars/MH) is rooted in war (Mars) and continues today with the perceived success of the surge which amazingly saved his candidacy.

This is Providence at work in raising up McCain to the presidency on a day numerologically and astrologically auspicious for the candidate and his party in manifold ways. "Cometh the hour cometh the man." With neo-imperial Russia allied to Iran plotting to control Central Asia, the Persian Gulf and world's oil supplies the hour calls for a warrior with a sword-and his Amazon veep-not an orator with words and a lawyer who wants to talk.

Actually, the chart I did is visually set up for 9:00 am but my reading is geared to the entire time frame from 8:30am to about 9:30 am. (this is why I didn't speak about Saturn in the 6th because it may be in the 5th). John McCain's mother was the source of the 9 am birth time originally. This was about fifteen years ago. More recently, now that she is in her mid 90s, John's mother was reported to have said off-handedly that she "thinks" he was born around 11 am. Before I published this chart I consulted with a number of astrologers and all of them were in agreement with my strong sense that John has Libra rising, Pluto in the 10th and Moon in the forth.

You speak with certitude that he was born at 11 am, and yet I believe you're in the minority in your sense that John has Scorpio rising with his moon in the 3rd House. I am assuming you must be privy to some information that the rest of us are not. Has a birth certificate become available? Short of that, I just can't buy into the 11 am time as the valid one.

I do also get the definite sense from your post that you have a romantic feeling about John McCain and his "provident destiny". If this is so can you explain why he joined Bush in his deceitful and rash rallying of the country into a totally unnecessary and immoral war? If John McCain is the "man" - "chosen by providence" then how does that square with such a colossally stupid blunder?

As a long time follower of astrology I agree with Lisa's assessment of John McCain's birth time 100%. Further, I think she showed her integrity as a writer & astrologer by giving him a more than fair treatment despite not being a supporter.

I would say it's been demonstrated John McCain has a 4th House Moon in Capricorn; in his mother's strong and dominant presence in his life. Also, that Pluto in Cancer opposition shows she would likely have a very long-lasting hold on his life, on through his career rise. And there she was, looking on from the opposite side of the room of the convention where he was reaching his 10th House pinnacle. We saw the chart playing itself out PRECISELY. [The 9 am chart.]

Also, the Jupiter is in the Second house with the 9 am time. This speaks to his considerable wealth, marrying into money (the square to Venus) and having properties all over the place and so many he's lost track. Classic Jupiter in Sagittarius in the Second.

Also, John McCain doesn't comport himself as someone with Scorpio rising. He is outwardly cheery, garrulous and social. Loves to chat and tell jokes and little stories. This is totally not Scorpio rising. If he were a Virgo with a Cap moon and Scorpio rising you would see a very cool and even cold and aloof demeanor, not the socially "available" person he is.

Lastly, that remark his mother made recently that he was born "around 11am" was made just recently to correct John when he said he was born during cocktail hour. She is 96 now, so I think it's possible she may be off by an hour or so, and that many years ago when she said he was born at 9 am she was probably giving a more accurate time.

Any by the way, ApolloSpeaks, are you putting us on with this "warrior with a sword" stuff? Wow, they talk about the Obama supporters drinking the Kool Aid, that is really, highly obnoxious. Sort of reminds me of "Bring it on!" And we know how well that worked out.

No matter the time, the election day (and all year) Saturn-Uranus opposition lays almost directly over his natal Saturn-Neptune opposition and thus squares his natal Jupiter. Seeing how much this indicates McCain must change, a process he shows little evidence of going through, i find your analysis doubtful.

Going to war in Iraq was a collective decision made by a vast majority of Americans and roughly 70% of their elected representatives in Congress. This "rash" war as you call it came after 12 years of Saddam violating a cease fire agreement (which in itself was a cause for war) and 17 U.N. resolutions (each of which was a justifiable cause for war).

The moral argument against the war is undermined by the fact that Saddam was the greatest mass murdering tyrant in Arab history (ancient and modern) being responsible for over one million Iraqi deaths. It's undermined by the fact that Saddam attacked and invaded two neigboring countries; it's undermined by the fact of his killing tens and thousands of Iranians and Kurds with WMDs. It's undermined by the fact of his massive funding, arming and training of terrorists documented in 600,000 captured Iraqi intel documents and recorded tapes (the Pentagon's Harmony Documents) which shows evidence of Saddam's funding of Al Qaida. Saddam wasn't just a bad man, he was a monster and toppling him was an act of justice long overdue.

When Congress passed the Iraq Liberation Act in 1998 regime change in Iraq became official US policy that was acted on in March 2003 after trying everything short of war to topple Saddam. "Operation Iraqi Freedom" was a last resort (unwisely executed) not a rash act of war.

As for 11am being McCain's true birthtime it came directly from his mother's mouth in a Mother's Day ad where Mrs. McCain corrects her son telling him that he was born on a Saturday not a Friday. That 96 year old indefatigable woman is as sharp as a wip and is unlikely to forget the moment of her great son's birth.

Moreover, 11am places Mars (the military) at the Midheaven and puts Neptune (the Navy) in the 10th House. It was the Navy branch of the military that raised McCain to prominence.

As for McCain's cheerfulness, sociablity and sense of humor taken as evidence of a Libra rising, with Scorpio rising at 18 degrees it receives a sextile from Venus.

You have no birth certificate to show us that indicates a 11 am time and you won't find one, because it doesn't exist.

A sextile from Venus to an ascendant turning a cool observant Scorpio rising into a classic Libra rising in both behavior and facial structure? You are completely reaching there. What about all the other iron clad points Strad brings up? Look, from my point of view the 9 am chart is far more likely the right one, and almost every astrologer I've talked to fully agrees. But of course you're free to believe whatever you wish.

Couple of things in response to your history lecture. You're re-hashing this old argument that's been completely debunked with 70% of the public, and the facts are what they are. You're saying Saddam deserved to be attacked because he broke rules we imposed on him 10 years prior, but in fact there is only one justification for us to overthrow and occupy an entire country which is that the country poses an eminent threat to us. He did not. Yes--it was entirely rash. Saddam gave the U.N. inspectors TOTAL access just before the war resolution was adopted TOTAL ACCESS. Bush and his neocon puppeteers *could have but did not* complete the inspections. Why is that? Because this was never really about WMDs. It was an idiotic Neocon-Israeli plan to remake the middle east, and there was the nice promise of Iraqi oil in the mix which they thought they would get a piece of -ah!- but somehow that was also entirely bungled.

As to Saddam being a horrible guy. There are horrible repressive tyrants all over the world, always have been. We don't send our military over to overthrown their countries. So to say Saddam had given us justification is malarkey. Back in 2002 there were many people who were saying the war was wrong and unjustified and would be a disaster were it to be undertaken. Maureen Dowd, a mere humor columnist no less, saw through all of this PERFECTLY and warned us this was just a bunch asinine males all full of themselves taking us into a war without a good plan and without justification. But she wasn't the only one. Many others spoke out as well. The majority of the press rolled over for people like McCain who were avidly cheer-leading for it and pompously assuring everyone that we could do this "easily" with less than 100k troops.

Your "great one" as you call him was greatly wrong. If he becomes president he will also be a great failure. That I'm even more sure of than his birth time.

Scorpio rising puts McCain's Neptune (prison, navy) and Mars (military service) in his tenth House. McCain's success in politics is rooted in his prisoner heroism as a captured navy pilot.

As for the Iraq War you and I are at an impasse. The evidence is conclusive and overwhelming that Saddam posed a gathering threat to this countries security by his massive training, funding and arming of anti-US terrorists financed by the money he fleeced from the Oil for Food Program.

As for Saddam's WMDs, hidden from the weapon inspectors were a clandestine network of WMD labs-discovered by David Kay after the invasion-which could produce biological and chemical weapons within weeks. After his capture Saddam told interrogators that he had every intention of reconstituting his WMD program using these facilities. As Saddam was training a bloodthirsty army of anti-US/Western terrorists in the use of these weapons the preemptive Iraq War was completely necessary and justified.

As for the remaking of the Middle East the Iraq War has done that. In destroying Sunni hegemony over the Arab world, dividing it between Shiite and Sunni, the Iraq War has reversed 1000 years of Mideast politics. Such seismic events in history are always Providential. The Iraq War was inevitable made so by the conjunction of three factors: 9/11+ George Bush+ Saddam's intransigence, lies and strategic blunders over a period of 12 years=Operation Iraqi Freedom. With Bush in power the only possible way this war could have been avoided was by Saddam coming clean like Kaddafi about his missing and unaccounted for WMDs: the huge stockpiles of illegal weapons which were listed by the UN and which disappeared from Iraq without a trace. He could have saved himself. He didn't bend and was broken. End of story.

Of course it wasn't. The video of the chemical labs you speak of looked like a tour of the Adam's Family basement. They were in shambles. And if Saddam was weeks away from Chemical WMDs why didn't he just have 'em done already? What was he waiting for? As to what Saddam supposedly said while a prisoner, I'd be skeptical of just how they got that statement from him, but in any case it's really not the main issue. Bush was never able to really frighten us enough with talk of chemical weapons, so he took it up a notch, putting Colin Powell out there with talk of mobile missiles and then Bush even mentioning a big old mushroom cloud over our heads. The nuke spooking was what finally got the support for the war up over 50% with the public.

Anyway, you do make a very eloquent argument for the War, but I really think you should be nice and support Obama this year. As you know being an astrologer, Leo's attract good luck and prosperity and we need that, not more War, which can only take us further down the path of economic ruin.

Saddam was waiting for the collapse of the sanctions regime-which was well underway-and reintegration of Iraq in the international community before reconstituting his WMD program. As he said to interrogators he had every intention of doing this. The reasons for going to war were broader than WMDs and are listed in the Iraq War Resolution which was passed by both houses of Congress. What we have learned since the invasion about Saddam's massive funding of terrorism-Al Qaida included-more than justifies the operation. The catastrophic and shocking changes to the Middle East made by the war are necessary for its long term, social, political and economic progress. If you are young I am certain you will live long enough to witness the benefits to the region that will spring from this war.

As for being nice to Obama because he's a Leo, like the Leo Herbert Hoover he wants to raise taxes during an economic downturn; that together with protectionist policies-which Obama favors-caused the Great Depression. Obama is a neophyte a man with little knowledge of economics and world affairs in a hurry to be president. His quest for the White House is self-gratification masked as revolutionary change. When Obama gave his so-called historic speech on race and Rev. Wright on March 18th it was the 139th anniversary of Neville Chamberlain's birth. That is an ominous sign of the destructive appeaser in international affairs. The day before his speech David Paterson the blind black Governor of New York was sworn into office. That is an ominous sign of Obama's mental blindness which is deep and profound.

I get the sense you are a really staunch Republican because you're sort of espousing all their talking points. I do agree with some of the republican "philosophies" but can't get on board with the party because they always prove to be so hypocritical. Bush has nearly doubled the size of government since he took office. So, what does this party have to offer? They've been mostly in control for the past 8 years and our economy is in horrible shape and headed further downward. Republicans have shown they just can't govern. Overall, Democrats have shown they're better at it. Not that I love Democrats either--but it does come down to two choices every election.

                  As for being nice to Obama because he's a Leo, like the Leo Herbert Hoover he wants to raise taxes during an economic downturn;

No, he's going to go back to the sort of tax system we had during that LEO Bill Clinton's two terms. Remember-- when we saw the best economic times of recent history?

that together with protectionist policies-which Obama favors-caused the Great Depression

. Obama hasn't indicated he's any more protectionist than McCain would be.

Obama is a neophyte a man with little knowledge of economics and world affairs in a hurry to be president.

Your guy George W was a man of even less knowledge of economics than Obama has; could hardly talk coherently at all about the economy during the 2000 debates. Obama can speak about it very articulately and get right into details. Bush was in a rush to be prez too -- he also thought he was entitled because he had connections. He was unqualified for the job but felt he could do it by getting his dads old friends, like Cheney and Rumsfeld, around him and then letting them basically guide him. He's been a failure in almost every way possible and has delivered on nothing he promised during his two campaigns. Obama clearly has more intellect than Bush and was smart enough to beat the Clintons in the primaries, through wit, superior organization and excellent management. There's every indication he will be a stunningly better president than Bush on day one. Also, overnight our terrible standing in the world will be restored and then some. We must regain our standing in the world because going forward, we absolutely must have the major countries of the world strongly with us when dealing with terrorism.

I'll give your article a read. I find all points of view interesting, but don't take seriously anything that overly partisan.

                  Lisa,

I'm a right of center independent, not a party man.

Obama wants to scrap NAFTA to protect US jobs against the deprivations caused by free trade in some industries. NAFTA is opposed by most trade unions and the hard Left, the tendency of both is toward economic isolation and protectionism which would cause a regional and global economic catastrophe.

In 1992 the economy went into recession. Before Clinton took office-a successful two term Governor-the recession ended due to the policies put in place by his predecessor George H. W. Bush. Clinton rode out the wave of Bush's policies until the dot com. crash in 2000, and the economy again went into recession (not Clinton's fault). To Clinton's credit he did nothing to hurt the economic boom and cooperated with Newt Gingrich and the "Contract With America" conservatives in Congress in welfare reform and balancing the budget. On domestic issues Clinton was a pretty good bi-partisan president.

However, what rescued the economy from the "Clinton recession," and the disastrous impact of 9/11, was the Bush tax cuts-which differed little from the JFK/LBJ cuts of the 60s and the Reagan cuts of the 80s; all three sent the economy soaring, all three were unitary cuts across the board for all Americans-for the wealthy (employer-business owners) and the rest of us. More money to save, invest and spend; more money for business owners to expand their companies, buy new equipment and hire more workers.

Obama, the so-called unifier, is proposing a preposterous class warfare tax cut that punishes business owners large and small earning $250K+. In light of the super successful wealth generating, economy growing, job creating JFK/LBJ-Reagan-Bush policies Obamanomics makes no economic sense. In fact, Obamanomics has much in common with the failed New Deal policies of FDR-his punitive taxes on businesses prolonged the Great Depression by several years. FDR was a great political leader-the right leader for WWII America-but a shallow economic dunce. It was the war that rescued the country from the Depression, not the New Deal.

Enough politics for now. I took a good hard look at McCain's 9am natal chart and am more than half convinced that you are right and that it is his chart. In his acceptance speech McCain said that his brutal experience as a POW helped him transcend his "selfish independence." When his body was broken so badly that he couldn't feed himself his fellow inmates did it for him and kept him alive. In prison McCain learned the lesson that "no man is an Island."

The 9am chart puts Neptune (prison) in McCain's 11th house (associations). Neptune conjunct Venus sextiles McCain's MH, good fortune and success come from the hell of his communist jail (Saturn opp. Neptune signifies his sadistic jailers).

I've just transferred 6 of my 16 Town Hall articles to Newsvine. Have a look.

Well, ApolloSpeaks, I think we are in so much trouble with our economy right now, I'll be very surprised if either one of them can turn it around. I hate to be the pessimistic Capricorn, but I just don't see how we can stop what is going to be a long downward slide. I think the only thing that will bail us out is if someone, or some group, comes up with a plan or invention that can really start getting us off the oil.

I'm glad you're reconsidering McCain's chart time. The Pluto up near the mid heaven and Mars in the tenth with it would speak of transformation through violence, and Pluto being in Cancer, an emotional "breaking" along with the physical. It would speak to the transformation in his path in life. Also, his ruling planet Mercury in the 12th would speak to his time incarcerated.

I did read your article. I really don't think all of Obama's supporters are swooning or drooling over him. I never have. I think his weaknesses are obvious, just as McCain's are, and just as Bush's were (really were!). I'm not a party gal, I actually used to be Libertarian and would vote that way again if they ever ran a viable candidate who spoke of how Libertarian ideas could be phased in in a realistic manner. But I really can't imagine becoming a Libertarian country at this point. That would be a radical change.

I'll check out your other articles.

Great insight on McCain. Personally, the Moon in Capricorn, and that alone, is cold, void of emotion, and my opinion, not a humane leader. You did a wonderful job, in explaining his early family life and the pull between the Moon and Pluto. Has any thought, ever been made, that he might be bi-sexual? or gay? He seems to have some gay friends, I have gay friends. and am not gay, but I have a strange feeling towards him. Only a feeling, but he does have Libra rising, also and spent 6 years in the company of men only. And I feel that he has little regard for women. Enjoyed your interpretation very much.

Thank you very much Azbirds. I've actually never gotten the sense that he's gay, but I suppose you never know. It does strike me odd that he lived in DC for many years while his wife lived in Arizona--he would only see her on weekends. Doesn't seem like a very close marriage. I mainly just see him as a guy who's emotionally inhibited and just doesn't trust or get along with women well. Sort of a stereotypical guy's guy, so to speak.

Glad you liked the reading. I also did an analysis on Barack Obama which you can get to by clicking on my username and scrolling down.

Lisa, yes, love you reading and I appreciate your comments of McCain possibly being gay. First time I ever wrote my feelings on this. It seemed like a subject to tread lightly around., but I had been curious. I would agree that he is very inhibited/ no wonder Cindy took the drugs. She probably was in pain, but could have been lonely too. She has always been beautiful, and could have wondered about her own self-worth, since he was gone so much. Then in 2006, she had the terrible stroke. Even with all her money, seems like a typical case, of not always being happy.
Thanks for your input, that lays my reservations to rest.

Well, as I said I really don't get that sense. And this isn't something that can't really be determined by an astrological chart--or at least I've never heard of an astrologer who can make that determination.

[By "guy's guy" I meant a guy who is generally more comfortable in the realm of stereo-typical male activities, like for instance the military.]

But that aside, what I do get a sense about is that John McCain doesn't have the right emotional make-up to be in a position of power. I think it would be a mistake if he were to be elected president, and I think that is something which the astrological chart can help determine.
